Transfer from the hotel to Km. 82, where we will meet our porters and equipment. We start our trek escorted by the porters, going through semi-arid terrain along the Urubamba River with magnificent views of snow-capped mountains. We will leave the Urubamba valley and set off up the Kusichaca River to our first camp site in Huayllabamba (around 3000 m.a.s.l – 9842 f.a.s.l).

Km 82 to Huayllabamba: 11 km

After a healthy breakfast. We will begin to walk uphill towards our first challenge of Warmihuañusca or death woman pass (4200 mts - 13860 ft. approximately). The trail crosses by the last village called Huayllabamba and the second park rangers check point. According to our ascent will find different ecosystems such a primary Andean Forest and Andean grassland. We reach the top of the pass, from where is possible to see, 360 degrees along the Urubamba and Huayllabamba valleys that We are leaving behind us. Also overview of the other side of the way, down to Pacaymayo valley, our next campsite, leading by Runkurakay ruins in the top. Now we have to descend hundreds of stairs, to the bottom of the valley.

Huayllabamba to Pacaymayo: 7km (4.5 miles)

We will depart from Pacaymayo and a while later a zigzagging, but short ascent will take us to the Runkurakay circular ruins. There is no sign of human life, only great forests and abrupt hills.

After a good rest, we will start our way down and then we will clearly notice that the Inca Trail is well preserved from this point on. In a short while, we will get the steps which go up to Sayacmarca ruins. (3620 mts – 11946 ft approximately). From Sayacmarca the stone road begins to go into the jungle, continuing our trek towards Phuyupatamarca ruins. The trail crosses the "LagoSeco" and for brief moments we will go up and down. We will then cross "The Tunnel", a natural cavity produced by a landslide but adapted by the Incas. The Inca Trail well-traced borders continue on the hills full of moss and fern. After crossing a small pass, we will see some steep steps and under them the Ceremonial Center of Phuyupatamarca ruins (3650 mts – 12045 ft approximately), where we will set our camp.

Pacaymayo – Phuyupatamarca:

5 km / 5 hours approximately

After an early wake up and a participative meeting with our trekking staff, to say good and thanks for their services and off course, to take some pictures in this spectacular sightseen point and start walking down to explore this Inca site, now more and more into the Amazon vegetation. The trail shows us all the way, the high engineering skills of the builders. Hiking downhill for the next 3 hours we reach Wiñaywayna (2700 mts – 8,856ft approximately), the main archaeological site before reaching the lost city of Machupicchu. We will visit and explore the site, from where we can see the Urubamba valley and the river far below. The path continues towards Inti Punku (2740 mts - 9042 ft approximately), or the sun gate, our last pass from where we will have the first sight of the unique and impressive site of Machu Picchu. A boxed lunch will be provided. From this place, Machupicchu (2450 mts - 8085 ft approximately) looks unreal and beautiful. We will have an overview orientation of the citadel. Then we will head down Aguas Calientes town, where we will spend the night. Phuyupatamarca – Machupicchu: 9 km (5.5 miles) 7 hours approximately.

After an early breakfast, passengers will be met by their guide at the hotel’s lobby to start our visit to the Sanctuary of Machupicchu. Exploring this magical Inca city and enjoy learning about how it was builded and discovered.

After this awesome visit,passengers will return to Machupicchu town (known before as Aguas Calientes), here passengers will enjoy lunch (not included). After lunch take the train back to Cusco. Upon arrival at Ollantaytambo train station, passengers will be transferred in a private vehicle back to their hotel in Cusco. (We can make arrangements or any itinerary for any guest for before or after the 5 days trip).
