MACHUPICCHU TO AUSANGATE CAMPING

This five-day trek through the Cordillera Vilcanota’s rugged snow-capped peaks offers spectacular scenery and a unique encounter with life in the Andean highlands. Hiking around the mystical Mount Ausangate (6,380 m.), we camp near hot springs and glacier-fed multicolored lakes inhabited by numerous bird species, including Andean geese and the magnificent Andean Condor

ITINERARY: 7 DAYS/6 NIGHTS

  • Today we will pick you up from your hotel to go t Olantaytambo by bus and take the train to Aguas Calientes Town. After we arrived, we will accommodate in your hotel and later take a nice dinner in town.

  • Early in the morning we will take the bus to Machupicchu for a guided tour to the citadel. in the afternoon we will take the bus back to the town and enjoy a meal while we wait for the train back to Ollantaytambo and then Cusco

  • Starting from Cusco, taking the road south towards Puno, we will follow the Huatanay and later the

    Vilcanota River, passing the ancient Wari site of Pikillacta and the colonial villages of Andahuaylillas and

    Huaro. From Urcos, we will start going uphill until reaching the highland savannah. Later, the Cordillera

    Vilcanota will appear in the distance, with mount Ausangate and mount Jampa clearly visible until we

    will pass throw Tinki town. Beginning the trek we will cross the Ocongate river and start traversing the

    puna (highland meadows), until we reach the foot of the Ausangate where the panorama of snowcapped

    peaks becomes breathtaking. We will camp at Upis, where the hot springs will make it a great place to

    relax after the rigors of the day. (Lunch / Dinner)

  • Today, first we will ascend the screen slopes to cross a 4,500 m pass, carrying on to Lake Pucacocha

    with the western ice fall of Mount Ausangate looming over our lake side camp. (Breakfast / Lunch /

    Dinner)

  • Passing small turquoise lakes we make the ascent of the Palomani pass (4,800 m) where the view of

    the south eastern ridge of Mount Ausangate on the Cordillera Vilcanota is absolutely amazing. Then,

    descending to Chilcapinaya we will make a campsite on HuchuyFinaya. (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner).

  • Hiking up the Jampa valley we will quite likely be able to meet highland shepherds tending their sheep

    and alpaca, spinning and weaving their wool into cloth with the peaks of Jampa and Colquecruz acting

    as a backdrop. Circling northwest around the Ticllacocha lagoon and over the last pass (4,650 m) we will

    reach the small meadow of Pachaspata for lunch, continuing our trek to Pacchanta community. Slowly

    descending the valley, we arrive in the village of Pacchanta, where we will spend the afternoon resting.

    You will be able to soothe away from all those aches and pains in the relaxing waters of the hot springs

    making a campsite nearby. (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

  • On the last day, we will make a short walk across the puna grassland past small communities of

    shepherds and weavers who will takes us back to the road at Tinki, here a bus will be waiting to take

    us to Cusco, where we arrive in the afternoon. (Breakfast / Lunch)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

    • Orientation meeting in Cusco (previous to departure date). Transfer put in and put off.

    • Transfer from Poroy train station to the hotel in Cusco (Last day)

    • Machupicchu entrance fee.

    • All balance meals during the trekking (4 days/3 nights), including 3 snacks (from lunch on day 1 to lunch on day 3)

    • All common camping gear: Two men mountain tent, inflatable mattress, kitchen dishes, kitchen tent, dinner tent, toilet tent, table, chairs.

    • Cook, kitchen crew and commissary gear with all meals included as described.

    • Mules for the whole camping equipment including personal luggage (7 kilograms per client, including sleeping bag weight) Muleteers.

    • Support horses.

    • First-aid kit with Oxygen.

    • Professional bilingual guide (English - Spanish), additional cost for other languages.

    • Short wave radios.

    • Sanitation care (disinfected dishes, filtered water, etc).

    • Environment care (all the garbage is going back to Cusco, portable toilet treatment).

    • Bus up and down from Machu Picchu (Last day)

    • Entree ticket to MachuPicchu Citadel

    • Hotel in Aguas Calientes

    • Train Vistadome Ollantaytambo – Aguas Calientes – Poroy

    • Flights to and from Peru / Cusco, or any kind of transport before or after completion of the program.

    • Optional tipping or gratuities to staff

    • Sales Tax 18%, for Peruvian Residents.

    • At the time of booking, deposit 200 for the entrance tickets to the Machupicchu National Park, an amount that is non-refundable

    • 30 days before the trip pay the other 50%

    • We need to purchase entrance tickets to the Citadel of Machupicchu in advance since the entrance has limited capacity.

    • To buy the entrance ticket to the citadel and the train tickets you must deposit USD. $200.00 in advance, non-refundable amount.

    • We will require a copy of your passport and we will be glad to confirm your space depending on availability. If you change your passport after purchasing your Inca Trail entrance fee, you will have to bring a copy of the old passport as well as the new original passport.

  • It is very important to acclimatize properly. If you are just arriving to Cusco, I recommend at least 1 full day in Cusco, preferably 2 days (3,300mts/10,824ft)

    Often people have a tight schedule and want to do as much as possible with their time, but acclimatization is important for you to be able to accomplish your goals.

    We can offer some light services before the trip to easy your hike, like a tour of one day.
