After breakfast at your hotel, we will transfer from Cusco to the Inca bridge of Huajachaca on the Apurimac River. This ancient bridge was once used by the Incas to exchange goods between the Pacific coast and Cusco, the capital of the empire (2,100 meters above sea level). Lunch will be served on the riverbank, where we’ll meet our river rafting guides and receive our equipment for the expedition. After lunch, our guides will provide a safety briefing before we begin navigating the Class 2-3 rapids of this fantastic river. As we paddle, we’ll pass remnants of ancient bridges used by the Incas. Dinner will be served at the campsite around a campfire. All meals included.

Timing: 7:00 AM: Transfer from Cusco to Apurimac River 12:00 PM: Arrival and meeting at Huajachaca (Apurimac River) 2:30 PM: After a safety briefing, we begin our 2-hour rafting trip 4:30 PM: Set up camp (sunset around 5:50 PM)

Distances: First 5 km: Gentle downhill hike to Rocoto village Last 5 km: More inclined downhill hike to the river Total altitude loss during the hike: 1,200 meters (5-6 hours) Total river section to be run over the next few days: 52 kilometers

After a healthy breakfast, we’ll explore the campsite area, admiring the vegetation like bromeliads and orchids. In the morning, we’ll tackle some easy rapids, pass through beautiful sections of the canyon, and explore a small creek. After navigating calm waters and black rocks for about 2-3 hours, we’ll reach the Santo Tomas River, a tributary, and continue through an impressive limestone canyon. After lunch, we’ll encounter several Class 3 rapids, with opportunities to spot river otters, deer, cormorants, torrent ducks, and other tropical Andean birds. Lunch will be served on a sandy beach. In the afternoon, we’ll pass numerous old suspension bridges and navigate another set of rapids, including the thrilling 3 Condors, before setting up camp on another sandy beach. All meals included.

Timing: 5:00 AM: Sunrise 6:30 AM: Breakfast 8:30/9:00 AM: Begin rafting after loading the rafts 10:30 AM: Continue rafting with snacks at the Santo Tomas River junction 12:30 PM: Lunch 2:00-4:30 PM: Afternoon rafting 4:30 PM: Set up camp (sunset around 5:50 PM)

After breakfast, we’ll tackle the most intense rapids of the trip, including Class III to IV pool-drop rapids like “The Other Right” and others. There will also be time to explore a couple of waterfall creeks along the way. After lunch at the end of our adventure, we will embark on a four-hour drive back to Cusco in our private vehicle, where we will drop you off at your hotel. End of our services (Breakfast, Lunch).
